The San Jose region of California is a wonderful place to set up a tee time (or a few) and go golfing. With beautiful weather and gorgeous nature, the courses here are stunning to look at and challenging to play. The clubs on this list will satisfy beginners and advanced players alike, and you can find a full 18 holes or a quick nine-hole game. Many of these spots have famous designers, plus practice facilities and private instruction. Here are six golf courses in or near San Jose that really stand out:

Cinnabar Hills Golf Club

This picturesque public course offers a breather from Silicon Valley. Designed by John Harbottle III, the course follows the natural contours of the landscape, and the property retains much of its natural wildlife, including the original oaks and oak seedlings. Views of beautiful tree-covered hills surround Cinnabar Hills Golf Club.

The green is open every day, and on weekdays, you can get a special early bird rate if your tee time is before 9 a.m. There are also two afternoon Twilight rates. Juniors aged 17 and under play at a discount. A practice facility and driving range are available, and you’ll also find a restaurant, a museum, and facilities for weddings and events.

Rancho Del Pueblo Golf

The executive course at Rancho Del Pueblo Golf occupies the space that was the Thunderbird Golf Course from the mid-’60s to the mid-‘90s. This facility encourages ready golf, so be prepared to play at the same pace as the group in front of you. The driving range is first come, first serve on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 

The course also offers foot golf. Play nine holes on weekdays or weekends, and get the discounted Twilight rate if you play after 4 p.m. The golf shop includes a snack bar where you can find chips, candy, soft drinks, and beer. Practice facilities and lessons are also available, and the staff at Rancho Del Pueblo takes pride in remembering repeat customers.

Coyote Creek Golf Club

With rolling hills in the background, the Coyote Creek Golf Club is a beautiful place for a tee time. This two-time host of the PGA Tour Champions has two 18-hole courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. One course, the Valley Course, is open to the public. You can get a private membership for the Tournament Course. The Tournament Course is for experienced golfers and offers an exciting challenge. The Valley Course is appropriate for golfers of all abilities, with 7,000 yards and beautiful greens.

Practice facilities and private instruction are available. In the summer, Coyote Creek offers junior golf camps for the kids as well. Become a member and gain access to member tee times. If you get hungry after your game, you’ll find a restaurant and a snack shack. This beautiful location is also available for weddings and events.

San Jose Municipal Golf Course

At the San Jose Municipal Golf Course, you’ll find a scenic 18-hole course designed by William P. Bell. With the Santa Clara Valley in full view, golfers of all skill levels will enjoy these fairways and greens. This walkable course is on relatively flat terrain; trees and new tee boxes offer additional challenges. The municipal course is meant to be fun and challenging at the same time.

A driving range and private instruction are available, including instruction for kids. Instruction opportunities include indoor studios that will film and analyze your swing so you can really improve your game. The facility also has a bar and grill where you can chill out and watch sports when you’re done with your tee time.

Pruneridge Golf Club

For a centrally located, quick game of golf, head to Pruneridge Golf Club. This nine-hole course can be as fast as 90 minutes to complete if you come on a weekday, though it’ll take about two hours on a weekend. The course is challenging to beginners and is a great place to practice your technique if you’re an advanced player. Two practice greens are open to the public at no charge, and a third putting and chipping green is available for a small fee.

The covered, double-decker driving range is open every day of the year, so you can practice your swing no matter the weather. At the Visual Golf Studio, really dig into your swing by getting professional feedback and custom club fitting. Casual dining at Aces Icehouse, where you can get American cuisine, beers, and cocktails, is a great way to end the day.

Los Lagos Golf Course

The Los Lagos Golf Course is certified with the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, and you can choose between nine or 18 holes. Here you’re likely to see wildlife near the course, such as foxes, turtles, and geese. Tee times are available every day of the week. You can also nab an early bird back nine or a Twilight 18 at a reduced rate. The two-tiered floodlit driving range is a great place to practice your swing. You can also get club fittings and lessons. Two women’s golf clubs are available for ladies looking for a golfing community.

Los Lagos is available for special events and parties. At the facility, you’ll find the pro shop and a restaurant. You can call the restaurant when you’re at the ninth hole, put in a food order, and pick up your food at the turn.
