Lexus GX Interior

The Lexus GX, a luxury midsize SUV with a truck-like formidability and off-roading capability, has looked more or less the same since 2017, but that changes with the 2024 model year. Now it sits on the GA-F platform that Lexus introduced in 2022 and shows off a new bolder look with its squared-off lines and imposing stance. Its exterior appeal also hints at the rugged sophistication of its interior qualities, which help to create an enjoyable and luxurious driving experience. Let’s examine the interior features of the 2024 Lexus GX as well as other characteristics that may interest you.

Interior Dimensions

As of mid-July 2023, Lexus has yet to release official interior specifications for the 2024 GX, but there are some preliminary exterior specs we can compare with previous model years to get a sense of what to expect.

At 197.04 inches long, 83.22 inches wide, and at least 75 inches high, the body of the 2024 Lexus GX is considerably larger than that of the outgoing model, which measured approximately 192, 74, and 74 inches, respectively. Seeing as the outgoing model had an interior capacity of 141.3 cubic feet, as well as a legroom split of about 42 and 34 inches in the front and rear, we can assume that the upcoming GX will be even more generous in the space department.

Interior Design

The official statement from Lexus is that the 2024 GX has a “calming, lux, and modern interior space.” The design philosophy for the ’24 GX was to balance the “tough exterior” of the off-roader with a more serene, yet still rugged, cabin. Hence the earth-tone color palette, as well as the premium touches like, semi-aniline leather, ar NuLuxe-trimmed interior, and Ultrasuede accents. The specific color and material options should vary depending on your choice of trim.

Seating

The Lexus GX can seat five to seven people across two to three rows. The exact seating capacity depends on the trim that you choose. The Premium and Luxury trims, along with their Plus versions, are available with two or three rows, while the range-topping Overtrail versions are strictly five-seat, two-row affairs.

Should you opt for a three-row model, you have a couple of additional choices to make. One is between a standard second-row 60:40 split-bench seat or captain’s chairs. The former gets you the maximum seven-seat capacity, while the latter reduces the capacity to six. The other choice is between power or manual seat configurations for the third row.

Storage and Cargo

As we mentioned, the 2024 Lexus GX is set to be noticeably larger than previous models in the line. Based on what Lexus has revealed so far, the added interior space translates to increased utility and cargo space as well. You’ll find that there’s more storage space in the center console and the door pockets. Around the cabin are 12 cupholders, which is double the number of seats in the three-row captain’s-chair configuration.

Using the 2024 GX for long-haul traveling should present few to no problems as far as luggage goes. Both the two- and the three-row configurations have more cargo space than in past models. To illustrate, Lexus states the vehicle can store up to five suitcases with the third row folded down. Those transporting larger loads should be happy to find additional storage spaces under the cargo area as well.

Technology and Connectivity

The 2024 Lexus GX comes equipped with the latest and greatest in vehicle technology. In the center dash is a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with Lexus Interface technology. Lexus Interface includes Intelligent Assistant, which allows you to control certain features with voice commands. Just saying the words “hey, Lexus” activates the assistant, with which you can access the navigation function, your music, your phone, and the climate control. The in-cabin tech also includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay integration, and Android Auto compatibility.

Of note, Lexus has designed the interior of the 2024 GX with the driver in mind, and it shows in some of the tech choices. One is the decision to use physical dials for the cooling/heating system as well as for the audio volume — a conscious veering away from touchscreen controls that drivers have long found impractical while operating a vehicle. Another is the concentration of off-roading controls near the gear shifter, a placement intended to minimize driver distractions.

You also get a 10-speaker premium surround-sound system, which comes standard. If you wanted, though, you could upgrade the sound system to a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound arrangement. And for passengers’ personal devices, there are four to six illuminated charging ports throughout the cabin, plus the option for wireless charging.

Safety

Riding in the 2024 Lexus GX is also about staying safe. To that end, every ’24 GX comes with an infotainment system integrated with Standard Lexus Safety Systems+ 3.0, a comprehensive suite of active safety and driver-assist features that include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection: Helps to detect vehicles, cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, providing automatic emergency braking when necessary
  • All-speed dynamic radar cruise control: An adaptive cruise control system used on highways to maintain a preset distance from the vehicle in front of you
  • Lane-tracing assist: Uses the lines on the road, as well as other vehicles, to help keep your vehicle centered in your lane
  • Proactive driving assist: Uses the vehicle’s camera and radar to initiate gentle braking or steering when necessary, such as when riding into curves or for controlling the distance between you and others on the road
