Currently, the TX is expected to be available as both a standard hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. Hybrid engines make use of both gasoline and electric power, which allows them to be more efficient and produce fewer carbon emissions.
Saying Goodbye to the RX-L Line
Introduced in 1998, the Lexus RX quickly gained prominence and dominated the luxury SUV segment, maintaining a loyal following and consistently exceeding sales expectations. Variants of the RX have been produced over the years, with hybrid drivetrains, F-Sport models, as well the longer wheelbase, three-row RX-L model. The 2023 Lexus RX-L was a luxury SUV with a starting MSRP of $48,550 for the full-wheel-drive model and $50,150 for the all-wheel-drive version. Because the TX has been designed to have more room and tech than the RX, it’s likely that the starting MSRPs for the new model will be higher than that for the 2023 RX, but we can’t be sure what the MSRPs will look like until the vehicle is released.
The RX-L has had a good run, appearing in 2017 and becoming a favorite of luxury SUV drivers. The good news for the legions of RX fans is that all other variants of RX will continue for 2023 and beyond. For the 2023 RX, you can choose from a variety of trims, including the Premium, Hybrid Premium+, F Sport Handling, and 500h F Sport Performance. Though the RX line exemplifies performance, style, and design, Lexus is always searching for ways to improve. This means the TX is replacing the RX-L and will offer a roomier interior, a more powerful drivetrain, and more integrated technology than its predecessor.
Who Is the New TX For?
The new TX is really for anyone who wants the highest-quality features in a midsize package, but Lexus did have a specific consumer in mind when creating the TX. Lexus designed the all-new TX midsize SUV for young, active families who want more passenger capacity, comfort, and technology in their SUV. All trims for the new TX will likely accommodate up to eight passengers, though the option for second-row captain seats reduces that amount to seven passengers.
Drivetrains for the 2024 Lexus TX
All the details for the new Lexus TX aren’t certain yet, but it’s likely that the TX will come in three models to accommodate different lifestyles. One of these is the 2.4-liter turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine. This drivetrain may be best for those who don’t have access to electric charging or aren’t interested in standard hybrids.
The next option is the TX 500h F SPORT Performance, which features regenerative electric hybrid power mated to an aggressive 2.4L Turbo gasoline engine. This helps the TX make the most of the fuel you give it so that it can go longer on a single fill. The final option is the TX Luxury, a 550h+ plug-in hybrid engine, which allows the driver to charge it overnight for more range during the day. The TX 550h+ plug in benefits from a 3.5L V6 mated to hybrid technology for an astounding 406 HP while delivering 33 miles on a full charge, and a combined mpg-e rating of 30mpg.
A plug-in hybrid engine is the best of both worlds, as it allows you to rest assured in areas that may not have available electric charging but also offers efficiency and sustainability when you can manage it. For example, if you plan to take the TX on a road trip, there may be areas in the United States where electric charging stations are few and far between. This may make the plug-in hybrid version of the TX the right choice for you.
TX Competitors and Comparisons
Larger SUVs with more legroom are getting more traction, and the new Toyota Grand Highlander may be one similar-style SUV, though it won’t come with the same luxury features or price tag as the Lexus TX. Some competitors for the TX may include other large SUVs, like the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.
Safety and Technology in the TX
The 2024 Lexus TX is integrating the best in safety and technology, potentially offering a semi-automated driving system that TX owners can use for hands-free driving. The new TX may also come with a digital key you can use to access your car from anywhere, even when you don’t have your key.
Another neat technological feature coming with the TX is remote parking, which may allow you to exit the car and use your smartphone to put the car into parking mode.
